Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver Walkthrough
Azalea TownOnce you enter Azalea Town, you'll see a confrontation between a Team Rocket member and an old man. You'll find a hidden Full Heal in the logs piled outside the small house with the straw roof. Go inside the house just west of the Pokemon Center. You can pick up a Wht Apricorn right outside. Inside, you'll talk to Kurt, who'll leave to fight Team Rocket. Follow him into the well right outside of Azalea Town.
Slowpoke WellYou'll have to battle three Team Rocket Grunts. Along the way, you'll be able to pick up a Super Potion, another hidden Super Potion on the rock in the dead end. You'll face off with one of the Team Rocket leaders, Proton, in the end. After defeating him, the Team Rocket members will disappear, and Kurt will come over to take you back to his place. He'll give you a Fast Ball as a treat. You can give Kurt all your Apricorns, which he'll turn into different balls. It takes a day to make a ball, and you can only give him one ball per day. Now that this is taken care of, let's go to the gym!
Azalea GymAzalea Gym is filled with Bug Pokemon. To reach the gym leader, you have to solve little puzzles on the gym floor. To battle the first trainer, optionally take the middle Spinarak. Otherwise, to proceed, take the left Spinarak. Fight the trainer and take the only Spinarak available, which will take you to the twins. Pull the blue lever, get back onto the Spinarak, and pull the red lever on the other side. Hop back onto the Spinarak, and you'll be taken to the gym leader.
Bugsy is the Gym Leader, and he uses a lv. 15 Metapod, a lv. 15 Kakuna, and a lv. 17 Scyther. After defeating Bugsy, he'll award you the Hive Badge. Now, Pokemon up to lv. 30 will obey you and you'll be able to use Cut outside of battle. Also, he'll give you TM 89 - U-turn.
We Meet AgainAs you go west toward , Rival will find you and battle you. He's gotten quite a bit stronger with a lv. 13 Gastly, a lv. 16 Zubat, and a lv. 18 Croconaw (the second-stage evolved version of his starter). After beating him, head west to Ilex Forest.
Ilex Forest
Ilex Forest is a dark forest filled with Bug Pokemon. Near the entrance, you'll bump into a guy who asks you to help him catch his Farfetch'd. It turns out there are two of them that you'll need to catch. The first one is just east of him, pictured in the screenshot. When you step on the branches on the ground, the Farfetch'd will turn in your direction. To catch it, you'll have to approach it from behind and press "A". So then, the goal is to trick Farfetch'd into facing the direction you want by stepping over the right patches of branches. After catching the first one, you'll bring it back to the guy and he'll ask you to catch the other one.
Continue east, where you'll find a Revive on the ground. The second Farfetch'd is right around the corner. To catch this one, scare it away first; it'll move to the right. Step on the right-most pile of branches so Farfetch'd will face right. Then, sneak up behind it and catch it!
The guy thanks you again. His boss will come over to reward you with HM 01 - Cut. Teach that to one of your Pokemon and you'll be able to cut through the tree right behind that guy. Cut the tree and head north.
Pick up the X Attack just south of the pond. If you head southeast, you'll find a fat dude who'll teach Headbutt to one of your Pokemon. You can use Headbutt on headbuttable trees to find wild Pokemon. North of that, you'll find a lost Kimono Girl. Your Pokemon will show her the way out of Ilex Forest. Pick up the Ether after she leaves and head all the way west to get out of the forest.
Pick up TM 12 - Taunt from the lady behind the counter in the gatehouse.
Route 34
There's not much going on on Route 34 besides battling a few trainers and possibly catching a few Pokemon. On the route, you'll bump into Lyra at the Daycare Center. It turns out the old couple who own the Daycare Center are Lyra's grandparents. She'll introduce you to Day-Care Lady, her grandma, exchange numbers with you, and then head off. You can leave your Pokemon here to breed and/or level up. Go outside and Day-Care Man will exchange numbers with you.
After that, battle the final trainer and pick up TM 63 - Embargo. Continue north and you'll arrive at Goldenrod City.
